General documentation tips. Cover depends on your policy wording — storm damage to outdoor units is more often claimable than ordinary wear.

Document

  • Photos of outdoor units after storms, hail or fallen debris if safe.
  • Note model/serial if visible and when the failure started.
  • Keep communication with your insurer or landlord.
